Afgelopen maand was Ilonka Marselis te gast op het EnergyCommunity Forum van de Europese koepel van energiegemeenschappen: REScoop.eu. Samen met afgevaardigden uit Frankrijk (Énergie Partagée), Catalonia (Osona Energia Cooperativa) en België (Ecopower) gaf zij daar een sessie over coöperatieve warmtenetten.
Ilonka: “Warmtenetten zijn uitdagende projecten en als je die lokaal zelf wil organiseren dan heb je professionele ondersteuning nodig, daar voorzien deze dienst-organisaties in. We doen dat vanuit de coöperatieve sector zelf zodat het zonder winstoogmerk, transparant en op basis van samenwerking in plaats van concurrentie gebeurt.”
Buurtwarmte in Frankrijk: La Boîte Commune
De Franse koepel van energiecoöperaties Énergie Partagée heeft een dienstenbedrijf ingericht, La Boîte Commune, specifiek om lokale, coöperatieve warmteprojecten te steunen.
Suzanne Renard van Energie Partagée vertelt: “Renewable heat networks require technical expertise and close presence throughout operations. Citizens are on board for this! In France, citizen heat operators launched La Boîte commune in early 2025: an organisation pooling tools and skills for heat networks. Initiatives like La Boîte Commune and Buurtwarmte are pivotal for citizens to take ownership and fully operate heat networks. Energie Partagée, the French federation of energy communities, support their work and the path it shows for citizen-led clean industrialisation!”
Buurtwarmte in Catalonië: OECoop
De Catalaanse koepel Osana Energia (OECoop) is eenzelfde initiatief gestart.
Ermen Llobet Martí van Osona Energia Cooperativa vertelt: “Osona Energia (OECoop) is a second level energy cooperative founded in 2022 by 4 local energy cooperatives located in the Osona region, north of Barcelona. Nowadays we have 51 associated local energy coops all around Catalonia. We aim to provide full support services to our energy communities in project development, governance and social growth.
In addition to developing PV rooftop installations for shared self consumption and mobility projects, we have started to develop District Heating and Cooling projects, as well. We have a strong reference with a 35 years old municipal District Heating system fed with biomass, providing service to most residential and industrial users in Sant Pere de Torelló, the town of one of the founding energy communities of OECoop.
We started developing a pilot District Heating & Cooling project based on geothermal and a low temperature network; the project finally couldn’t go on but we learnt some lessons (mainly related to business model) and now we are starting the development of two new pilot plants within the framework of the MUSE Life Project where we are partnering with Energie Samen, ResCoop and our technical provider SUNO, among others.
We want our associates to be able to lead collective thermal generation and renovation projects with OECoop’s full support. Without collective heat projects there isn’t a proper, speeded up, citizen-led energy transition.”
